Insulated Dog House Designs

To keep your dog comfortable during the winter, implementing insulated dog house designs will be necessary. By insulating the area, you can be certain the dog will be at ease no matter what the season is.

Required Tools and Materials

Sandpaper
Caulk
Plywood sheeting
Insulation
Saw
Nails

Step 1

Be certain the unit is large enough for you to work with. Insulation will be easier to put in if the unit is still unfinished. However, it is possible to protect even finished units.

Step 2

Make sure you pick material that isn’t difficult to work with. The easiest to work with is rolled insulation. However the type you select is up to you. Make certain the material you choose is appropriate for the climate in your area.

Step 3

Assess the floor area of the structure. The floor area is the most important part you should shield during the winter season. If the floor can be removed, take it off and add the insulation. If the floor cannot be removed, mark the area with plywood. Trim the wood based on the marks. This ensures the structure will fit.

Step 4

The next step to implement the insulated dog house designs is to trim the insulation. When trimming, be certain the portion is large enough to fit the floor area. Use nails to fasten it while you put in the upper floor.

Step 5

Add the plywood above the insulation. Be certain the material will fit in the two floor sections. Firmly push it down. Get some nails and secure them.

Step 6

Proceed by lifting up the walls of the structure. Add the material in the same manner as you did in the floor. If the walls cannot be taken off, trim portions of the wood so they can be put in the walls. This is similar to the method you used earlier for the floor.

Step 7

Caulk the floor and walls. There should be enough caulk so drafts are kept out of the unit. This will also keep the material dry.

Tips

Don’t let the animal come in the structure until the caulk has dried completely. Sand the edges and make sure there are no rough spots. Remove any sharp edges and corners.

After you implement the insulated dog house designs, make sure you replace the bedding and clean it regularly. Don’t let the dog near the structure when you are constructing it so they don’t accidentally swallow the nails or inhale other chemicals.
