How to Build a Big Dog House
If you cannot find a structure that is large or cheap enough for your pet, you are better off learning how to build a big dog house. If you want the structure to be much larger, increase the amount of materials you are going to use.
Required Tools and Materials
Hammer
Roofing tacks
Shingles
Jigsaw
2-inch wood screws
Power screwdriver
4-inch wood screws
Two 8-foot long 2 by 4 boards
Miter saw
Carpenter’s square
Pencil
Tape measure
1/2-inch thick plywood sheet
Step 1
Start by slicing the plywood. Saw a couple of pieces measuring 43 inches long x 25 inches tall. Saw two more pieces measuring 37 inches wide x 25 inches tall. Cut another piece that is 37 inches wide by 43 inches long. Cut another piece that is 40 x 46 inches.
Step 2
The next step to learning how to build a big dog house is slice the 8 ft 2 x 4 you will use to make the unit. Cut and slice the boards so you have 4 pieces measuring 36 inches long. Cut another couple of pieces so they are 38 inches long.
Step 3
Make two frames with the 2 x 4 boards. Set the two 38 inch boards parallel to each other. They should be perpendicular between the end points of the 36 boards. Fasten them into place with the 4″ screws. Repeat this with the other frame.
Step 4
Put the 38 x 43 inch on the frames. Allow half an inch to project at the sides. Put 2 inch screws in the plywood to the frame. Use the 40 x 46 inch frame for the other frame. 3 inches should project from the sides.
Step 5
Get the 37 x 43 piece and set it upside down. Get someone to help you position the 43 inch pieces onto the frame side. Place these on the half inch projection. Connect these pieces on the bottom.
Step 6
Put the other plywood parts on the half inch projecting at the ends. Connect these on the frame using the 2 inch screws. Connect these to the corners with the roofing tacks.
Step 7
Place the frame on the house so the 2 x 4 is set into the roof. Use the screws to connect the back, front and sides. Make the door opening and the shingles. The shingles are essential to keep water from building up.
Now that you know how to build a big dog house, you no longer have to spend a ton of money looking for one to buy.
