Free Large Dog House Plans
There are many free large dog house plans you can download off the Net and print. However, even the best laid plans are unlikely to be a perfect match for your own designs. If you want to develop your own plan or want to make changes to a blueprint you are using, the following suggestions can help.
Required Tools and Materials
Pencils
Yardsticks
Graph Papers
Step 1
Begin by setting down the measurements. This will depend on the size of your pet, but the following can also serve as guidelines. The unit height must be 35% higher than the dog. This is from the top of the dog’s head to the floor.
In terms of width it should be at least 2/3 to ¾ the animal’s body length (this doesn’t count in the tail). The length is usually not made more than 1 and ½ times the dog’s length (this measurement is minus the tail).
Step 2
The plan should also take into consideration the shape and size of the roof. There are many options to choose from but avoid the flat roof as water won’t drain.
Step 3
Make sure the door opening is wide enough for the dog. A door that’s too big may cause problems especially when the weather is cold. When developing the plan, it is best if you set the door close to a corner. This will act as protection for drafts.
Step 4
Insulation should also be part of the structure. Many free large dog house plans include this feature, and is often below the floor. Polyurethane is the finest type of insulation for the floor. The ceiling and walls have to be insulated too.
Where to Get These Plans
As stated earlier, the Web is a good place to look for plans. The types vary, from the most basic to very detailed. Many of these can be adjusted size wise, so you can enlarge it as much as needed. What is important is that you have all the materials ready.
You will have to increase the amount of materials being used however. You will also have to make allowances for the dog’s size. But by using the basic template, making any further additions will be easy.
The free large dog house plans on the Web are intended to make construction easier. And as indicated here, you can make adjustments to the plans so they can fit your own designs.
